GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen: A Detailed Review

GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen A Detailed Review
GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen A Detailed Review

Previous generations and designs, evolutionary thinness, and humanism aesthetics are all inspirations for the AERO 17 Creator Laptop. In one compact chassis, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs and the 12th generation Intel Core i9 processor work together to create a remarkable 4K HDR ultra-wide experience. It is driven by the core principles of performance, with minimalist yet detailed designs that offer great efficiency and exceptional form and function on their creative journey. It offers excellent efficiency with the utmost beauty.

Laptops built for creators are my absolute favorite because they focus on performance and aesthetics. Be warned, the Gigabyte Aero 17 12tn Gen is a scorcher, but it’s all of those wonderful things. The 17-inch, 4K UHD display has a beautiful view like a hot summer day, and the powerful specs will keep the hardest working creators moving. However, it has one big flaw that may make it uncomfortable.

Gigabyte’s new Aero laptop series, which now incorporates Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX graphics cards, has been launched today. The 16:10 screen ratio and the general color scheme and muted design suggest that the Aero laptops are more suited to content producers than gamers.

The trio of X-Rite (for factory color calibration), Pantone (for precise color reproduction), and varied DisplayHDR attestations, which will give creators some reassurance in color- and contrast-critical workloads, further caters to the target demographic.

Performance GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen

It may be built with an Intel Core i9-12900HK (6 Performance Cores with Hyperthreading and 8 Efficiency cores for 14 cores and a total of 20 threads) or a Core i7-12700H CPU (with the same CPU core count) but lower maximum and median clock speeds.

The graphics may be upgraded to an RTX 3080 Ti 16 GB desktop GPU, while the memory may be boosted up to 64 GB of DDR5-4800. The Nvidia RTX 3060 6 GB is the cheapest possible option, while the RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB sits in the middle ground between the two.

Surprisingly, the Aero 17’s bigger chassis does not seem to have affected Nvidia GPU maximum operating frequencies. The operating frequencies are the same on all Aero models in 2022.

The RTX 3060, for example, has a base clock of 1,163 MHz and a boost clock of 1,530 MHz across models; the RTX 3070 Ti has a base clock of 510 MHz and a boost clock of 1,035 MHz, and the RTX 3080 Ti has an even higher base clock. The power of each graphic set is capped at 105 W for all graphics cards.

Both models have dual M.2 Gen 4×4 slots that are supported in terms of storage. The basic configuration weighs 2.4 kg (5.31 pounds). Remember that these are portable workhorses rather than ultraportables. Testaments to that are the 99 Wh-batteries and 240 W power brick. However, the display department is where the two models diverge the most.

Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR Design

The Aero’s CNC aluminum chassis is attractive, as it is entirely black and metal. The Aero logo on the lid lights up and contrasts nicely with the chrome Aero emblem positioned between the back vents when it is activated. The carbon fiber finish on the bottom of the lid adds to the lid’s sleek appearance.

With the blue Windows 10 backdrop, the brilliance of the presentation greets you warmly. The keyboard is nicely sunk into the metal deck, which has a luxurious feel. The Gigabyte Fusion RGB per-key backlit black keyboard is very quick and responsive. On the upper section of the deck, there are two speaker vents on either side of the power button.

The Aero 17 HDR YD weighs 5.5 pounds and has 15.6 x 10.6 x 0.8-inch dimensions. The Razer Blade Pro 17 (6.1 pounds, 15.5 x 10.2 x 0.8 inches) and Alienware m17 R4 (6.6 pounds, 15.7 x 11.6 x 0.9 inches) are the Aero’s lightest competitors in this category of gaming laptops The Origin EON 17-X, which weighs 8.34 pounds and is 15.7 x 12.5 x 1.7 inches in size, is our group’s monster of choice.

Keyboard and Touchpad

With the colorful per-key RGB backlit feature turned off, allowing editors and photographers to see better in dim rooms, the AERO keyboard design speaks to the creators’ voices. With all function keys readily visible, the laser-engraved keyboard gives the impression of a starry night sky – dazzling and beautiful.

The GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen keyboard suited my large hands well, and I liked it. The Aero 17 HDR has RGB-backlit black Chiclet-style keys. Each key gives a clicky yet soft bounce, making the keyboard extremely responsive. I achieved some of my best scores ever on the 10fastfingers keyboard test. Because the large deck and keyboard are designed for persons with Hulk-like hands like mine, I typed at 89 words per minute with 92% accuracy.

When surfing the internet or editing files, the 4.2 x 2.8-inch touchpad is precise and responsive. It handled all of the Windows 10 motions, from two-finger swipes to three-finger taps, beautifully. When you use either right or left clicks, the bottom corners offer tremendous, clicky responses.

Audio

The Aero 17 speakers are located in a long strip beneath the screen. The Aero 17 provides as much of that tone as laptop speakers can, and we’ll always choose top-firing speakers for their better sound quality. The speaker quality is excellent for playback purposes, despite the fact that audio professionals will still want to use dedicated headphones and microphones for recording and editing work.

For the first time, the new GIGABYTE AERO 17 offers DTS: X Ultra audio technology, which allows you to fully appreciate the high-fidelity sound. The sound experience and performance are enhanced by innovative virtual 7.1-channel surround sound. Conference calls, as well as playing games and watching movies, are all options.

Battery Life

According to Gigabyte, the GIGABYTE AERO 17 12th Gen achieved eight hours of battery life in their video playback test while in power-saving mode with 20% brightness and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned off. That assertion is without merit, but it isn’t reflective of common usage, either.

The Aero 17 lasted three hours and 39 minutes on a 99WHr battery in our film tests, with brightness and volume set to 50% with Bluetooth off, Wi-Fi on, and balanced power settings. Its battery performance in our PCMark10 test was better, achieving a total of six hours and seven minutes.

Connectivity

The Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR YD is compatible with a wide range of devices due to the numerous ports available. With Intel Thunderbolt 4, you can save time for your next project by combining transmission and display in one port. PCIe Gen4x4 4TB SSDs are supported by Aero 17 laptops. With a bandwidth of up to 7000 MB/s4 and a sequential read speed of 2 times that of the previous generation, users can preview faster, store more, read faster, and work on their files – seizing every second when inspiration strikes.

Software/ Hardware Compatibility Test

GIGABYTE Labs has performed a series of software compatibility tests on AERO to make sure our AERO user has a great creative experience. All GIGABYTE/AORUS peripherals, including monitors, keyboards, mouses, and the Gaming BOX external graphics box are likewise fully compatible with the AERO 17 creator computer, resulting in a highly capable creative studio.

Limited bloatware comes with the Aero 17 HDR YD. The DTS-X audio tuning program is all you’ll get. There are apps for Skype, Office 365, Microsoft Solitaire suite, and Xbox on every Windows 10 device. With the basic warranty, you get 24/7 online support, whereas the Gigabyte Aero 17 HDR has a three-year warranty.

Webcam

Your typical HD 720p webcam comes with the Aero. When the lighting in the room was adequate, it produced razor-sharp pictures, color-accurate video, and even skin tones. The webcam is centered between the hinges, which I don’t like. It makes you crane your neck and force whoever you’re talking to have a clear view of your neck and nostrils. With the next version of the product, I’m hoping Gigabyte will address this.

As I moved around the frame, the camera accurately focused on my face and kept up with it. To get the best performance from the camera, I cannot emphasize the importance of good lighting. If you want the best picture and video quality, choose an external webcam even if your room isn’t well-lit.
