The 2018 Dell XPS 15 9575 is a near perfect 2-in-1 laptop as it’s upgraded to the Dell XPS 15 9560 we’ve come to know and love. It can be considered a competitor to the HP Specter X360 15 which was launched in 2018 and is a high-end alternative to the existing Dell Series.
True to its name, the XPS 15 is a convertible 2-in-1 laptop that allows you to rotate the screen 360 degrees, you can use it fully in tablet mode or tent mode. You can also use a tilting Wacom-based pen with 4,096 pressure points that let you take notes and sketch-like pencil and paper.
Design

The Dell XPS 15 9575 2-in-1 or hybrid laptop is designed with luxurious matte materials. This Hybrid laptop generally resembles the XPS 15 9560 series which still uses aluminum and carbon fiber materials, making this device very impressive.
The Dell XPS 15 9575 hybrid laptop attempt to twist the body and screen causes a slight twist. It’s one of the few laptops with a screen that’s as sturdy as the body while ensuring flexibility. Designed with a luxurious matte finish. This laptop in general resembles the XPS 15 9560 still using aluminum and carbon fiber materials, making this device very impressive.
Attempts to rotate the body and the screen cause a slight bend. It’s one of the few laptops with a screen that’s as sturdy as the body while ensuring flexibility.
The quality of this device is very good, it has burrs or gaps between the joints. When bending, there is only a very small sound. When compared to the Specter x360 15, the Dell XPS 15 has a slight advantage as it leaves a better impression, especially on the hinges.
A small detail but also worth noting is that it doesn’t have a small slot to open the screen. Then unlocking the device will be a bit more difficult even with two hands. In addition, the carbon fiber surface will be sticky due to sweat, over time it will not look shiny anymore due to the presence of oil on the surface.

Measuring 354mm x 235mm x16mm and weighing just 1.97kg, the 2018 XPS 15 9575 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor and competitors. Having a compact and luxurious 2-in-1 laptop helps you work anywhere, it’s convenient to move. Not only that, this laptop is also integrated with fingerprint security technology on the power button and infrared camera for fast facial recognition.
Screen Display

Dell XPS 15 2 In 1 has a 15.6 Inch screen with two variants, Full HD and 4K which are both touch screens. The display has a Full HD resolution that delivers up to 400 nits of brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB, in higher 4K versions you will have sharper images with 100% Adobe RGB colours.
Like the XPS 15 9560 before it, the XPS 15 9575 also includes FHD and 4K UHD options with panels provided by Sharp. Laptop workstations like the Precision 5510 and Lenovo ThinkPad P50 mount a 4K UHD panel which is very similar to our XPS 15 9575 as they all share the same LQ156D1 identity.
Subjectively, text and images will look sharp as on the XPS 15 9560. Compared to the XPS 15 9575 FHD SKU, the 4K panel here is brighter in the center, but the light uniformity is worse.
One oddity we should mention is that the gamut is smaller than expected on the Sharp XPS 15 9560 4K UHD Panel, ThinkPad P50, and Precision 5510 can cover >85% standard AdobeRGB and essentially 100% sRGB.
However, at 4K UHD XPS 15 9575, the color gamut is only 72% AdobeRGB. While color coverage is always wider for FHD SKUs, it’s not the full AdobeRGB coverage Dell advertises. We made sure to set the PremierColor software to AdobeRGB but the result is the Color coverage always remains the same.

Unlike Gigabyte, they standardize and calibrate every Aero 15 monitor at the factory to the X-Rite Pantone color certification. Colors and grayscale for the Aero 15 series are significantly more accurate as they are equipped with a custom-designed color profile for each unit.
Our study and Calman’s results on the latest source Aero 15 and Aero 15X V8 show that the Gigabyte system is indeed capable of reproducing sRGB more accurately for fluctuations.
Less AdobeRGB colors on the 4K UHD panel for the XPS 15 9560 (72 percent versus 88 percent). Despite researching our findings, Dell’s only complaint is that the 4K UHD panel for the XPS 15 9575 promises 100% AdobeRGB coverage. Graphic artists can hope to look elsewhere because of the XPS 15 convertible’s questionable color coverage.
for the XPS 15 4K UHD, odd color behavior was very common with our X-Rite spectroscopic assessment. Colors become very inaccurate the higher the saturation level even though it has full sRGB coverage.
Super Powerful Configuration
Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 has a powerful configuration with quad-core KabyLake G 65W processor, there are two options I5-8305G or I7-8705G. This is the first example of Intel and AMD collaboration. AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL integrated graphics card with 4GB HBM2 RAM. Radeon RX Vega M supports 4K UHD touchscreen in a better way, it works similarly to Ndivia GTX 1060 Max-Q.
The 2018 Dell XPS 15 is offered up to 16GB of RAM, coming soon to 32GB of RAM and a hard drive of up to 1TB of SSD storage. You can handle tasks smoothly and quickly.
Processor
The Core i7-8705G is within a few percentage points of the Core i5-8305G in single and multi-threaded workloads according to CineBench. This delta is so small compared to the price difference between the Kaby Lake-G Core i5 and Core i7 SKUs that most users don’t even notice the slightest benefit of a Core i7 CPU. However, its performance is still comparable to the Core i7-7700HQ CPU found on the XPS 15 9560 and most Kaby Lake 2017 gaming laptops. The Core i7-8750H currently ships on the new XPS 15 9570. about 50% faster for our XPS changing multi-threaded workloads while the i7-8809G is almost 25% faster.

Running CineBench R15 Multi-Thread in a loop resulted in an initial high score of 749 points before settling in the 680 range to show a performance drop of around 9 percentage points. In comparison, the i5-8305G SKU was able to hit an initial high score of 710 points before stabilizing at around 670 to represent a drop of nearly 6%. While this drop is relatively small, neither of these processors can maximize Turbo Boost for more than 30 seconds or so.
GPU Performance
On the Intel platform, the same integrated HD Graphics 620 GPU can be found on a variety of U CPUs from the Core i3-7100U to the Core i7-7600U. Also, the actual GPU performance is always very similar between these platforms. The same can be said about the AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL GPU in the Core i5-8305G and Core i7-8705G. 3DMark results show that both Dell SKUs have nearly the same raw graphics performance so it’s impossible to experience any benefit in gaming. like the test part As our scenario will show, the Vega M GL GPU runs at the same 1011 MHz clock speed between the i5 and i7 CPUs.

Raw graphics power lies somewhere between the GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti and is about the same as the GTX 965M. Therefore, gamers can expect the same level of performance as the XPS 15 9560. However, some games may run much slower on AMD GPUs due to sub-optimal performance. Check out our dedicated page on the Radeon RX Vega M GL here for more technical information and benchmarks.
Keyboard

The keyboard on the XPS 15 2018 is a redesigned keyboard called “maglev”. This is an idea that has been talked about for years, but is not widely used. Instead of using a rubber dome under the keys, it uses magnets to give users stronger tactile feedback without requiring long key travel.
Dell’s unique Maglev keyboard delivers the same experience as on the MacBook Pro. The goal of this new generation of keyboards is to provide a shallow key spacing of just 0.7mm instead of 1.5mm as on the Specter x360 15, while still providing a solid and satisfying typing experience. In fact, you will need a little time to get used to it.
The press will be quieter, the sound will be smaller than most Ultrabooks, but the button spacing is very short, making each key feel very light despite the relatively solid response. I don’t rate them as better or worse than traditional keyboards as each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Short key travel has a weakness, namely when playing games the experience is uncomfortable, because the mechanical keyboard or rubber key has a long and not light travel. Small navigation keys and a row of function keys feel cramped when used.
Maglev technology has the benefit of less wear and tear, improving consistency over time compared to traditional keyboards. In theory, the service life should be longer without degradation over time.
Touchpad
The TouchPad is a great thing Dell has in store for users. Truly high-end, the TouchPad on the XPS 15 is considered the best touchpad in the world with the smoothness and responsiveness it brings, with no delays in any mouse operation.
The touchpad measures 10.5 x 8 cm, smaller than the Specter x360 15. The mouse experience is smooth, without any sticky or jerky phenomena. The built-in mouse buttons have a shallow feel, short travel, and a soft click when pressed.
With smoothness and responsiveness in every operation, the TouchPad on the XPS 15 is considered the best high-end touchpad in the world, with no delays or lags in use.
Stylus Pen

The included WACOM Premium Active Pen (PN579X) is 15 cm long with a pressure sensitivity rating of 4,096 and a reporting rate of 240 Hz as determined by the AES 2.0 benchmark. The top button and two side buttons are used to launch apps and pair with the system.
The side buttons have weak feedback when pressed compared to the Microsoft Surface Pen, and they could benefit from a more natural feel.
The Dell Active Stylus Pen does not have a pen clasp near the tip for pinching. Instead, the stylus relies on magnets to attach to objects and along the edges of the XPS platform.
Connectivity

Maybe this is the era’s notebook without a USB A port. Despite the large size of 15.6 inches, this device made by Dell is only equipped with USB C/Thunderbolt 3, Mini Display Port, SD card slot, Noble key, and 3.5 jack. Thunderbolt 3’s versatility is great, but you’ll still need a set of adapter ports for all your peripherals.
Ability to maintain and improve
To remove the base cover of the device, you will need a T5 hex screwdriver like the standard XPS 15. Also, you need to be quite careful because the metal back cover is quite hard, especially at the edges and corners. After removing the lid, we can directly access the cooling system, M.2 2280 SSD, battery. RAM is soldered directly to the circuit board so it cannot be replaced.
System Noise
Fan behavior is identical to the slower i5-8305G SKU. We could notice no whining or electronics on our unit. Fans are still buzzing while gaming, but nothing as loud as the XPS 15 9560.
Temperature
The XPS 9575 has a symmetrical temperature gradient just as experienced on the XPS 15 9560 due to a redesigned motherboard. The placement of the Kaby Lake-G processor means the left side of the laptop will always be warmer than the right side, and this delta will only grow under higher loads. Hint, the essential WASD keys can get warmer than 45 C during gaming compared to just 35 C on the XPS 15. Although the XPS 15 9575 is slightly more powerful than its XPS 15 sibling, gamers. Couldn’t learn a warmer key height.

Energy Management
Our first research unit XPS 15 9575 shipped with a faulty AC adapter and as a result we were unable to provide normal power consumption measurements. Luckily, our second XPS unit included a decent AC adapter. It should be noted that the adapter is rated at 130 W although the industry specification for USB Type-C charging is limited to 100 W.
inactivity on the desktop will pull from 6 W to 14 W depending on screen brightness and Power Profile settings. The results are very similar to the Asus ZenBook Flip 15 while also being significantly more power efficient than the XPS 15 9560 overall. Gaming will require around 85 W to 105 W on the XPS 15 9560 (w/GTX 1050) although raw GPU power is 20% faster on the XPS 15 9575. Overall, the XPS fluctuates faster and more efficiently than the others.

What formats can XPS 15 9560? distribution. Laptops with the GTX 1050 Ti can draw more power while gaming, but the overall difference in performance per watt between these platforms is more than we expected.
What about the 130 W power distribution? Dell says it designed the USB Type-C connector on the XPS 15 2-in-1 to be undetectable at up to 130 W. To test this, we stressed the laptop worked 100% with Prime95 and FurMark running at the same time. Our graph below shows power consumption surging up to nearly 140 W for the first few seconds before quickly dropping to steady at around 88 W. pulling over 100 W, that’s unsustainable. Fortunately this has no impact on actual system performance as 100 W seems more than sufficient in practice. Extra 30 W of overhead level converter to ensure stability.
Battery life
Users can expect around 7 hours of real world WLAN online usage before needing to recharge. Competitor laptops with i7-7700HQ and GTX 1050 return the same performance all day long. Unlike the XPS 15 9560, there is currently only one battery option in all XPS 9575 SKUs.
Charging from near full capacity will take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours with the included AC adapter. That’s a little slower than expected as 1.5 to 2 hours is more typical than Ultrabooks and multimedia laptops.
