The Asus TUF is one of the entry-level gaming laptops from ASUS that for the first time rocked the laptop world.

This is because at that time Asus was able to offer entry-level gaming laptops with low prices but with qualified specifications.

It’s no wonder that in a short time, Asus TUF has developed rapidly in branding. It even became the mainline sold by Asus, competing with its own brother from the ROG line aka Republic of Gamers.

Along with its development, the Asus TUF which was originally large and bulky like a gaming laptop in general has now become more compact.

This is evidenced by the release of the Asus TUF Dash F15 which is not only thin but powerful. So that you are not curious, please read the full review.

Pros Very compact and simple design for a gaming laptop, 240 Hz panel screen, very high battery life.

Disadvantages Does not have a built-in webcam, GPU capabilities are less efficient, and sound emission is quite high at maximum performance.

Unlike most of the gaming laptops available on the market today, the Asus TUF Dash F15 is one of the “not very prominent” ones. In other words, for those of you who want to have a gaming laptop, but are embarrassed to open it in a public place, this is the answer.

Asus TUF Dash F15 itself has a very simple design, without thick gaming accents. In addition, the edges also tend to be simple and angular and at a glance resemble the Razer Blade. Well, that’s just in terms of design. What about the other aspects?

In terms of performance, this laptop can be said to be quite fast. Especially for the highest series which is equipped with an 11th generation Intel Core i7 CPU and combined with an RTX 3070 GPU which is one of the highest combinations in its class.

Furthermore, with specifications as classy as this, of course, you don’t have to worry about this laptop is out of date. In our opinion, with the capabilities, this laptop has, at least in the next 3 years you will still be able to play AAA games smoothly on this laptop.

For those of you who have previously tasted Asus TUF Gaming, we think this laptop is worthy for you to consider as your next laptop. Although in terms of performance it is not too much difference.

Furthermore, to become a daily laptop, the Asus TUF Dash F15 has fulfilled quite important requirements. Namely, the battery life is quite high, which means this laptop will last you to carry it everywhere to work.

About weight and compactness? Don’t ask, because this laptop is the lightest and thinnest of the gaming laptop category available and more importantly, at an affordable price!

Pricing and Availability

Just like other laptop lines from Asus, the Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR has lots of SKUs that you can choose from. Of course, this is quite encouraging news, especially for those of you who have a limited budget but want to have this laptop.

Each of these SKUs of course has different specifications, but in our opinion, the price offered by Asus is still very affordable. Even for each SKU, in our opinion, its capabilities can still be relied on at this time.

There are several SKUs that you can get right now:

  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PC i5-11300H RTX 3050 8GB 512GB 144Hz 15.6″
  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PE i7-11370H RTX 3050Ti 16GB 512GB 144Hz 15.6″
  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PM i7-11370H RTX 3060 144Hz 8GB 512GB SSD 15.6″
  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PM i7-11370H RTX 3060 144 Hz 8GB 512GB SSD 15.6″
  • ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PR i7-11370H RTX 3070 144 Hz 16GB 1TB SSD 15.6″

Interestingly, with these slightly different specifications, the price difference between the highest and lowest is quite far.

Now, you don’t need to worry about the willingness of all SKUs for the Asus TUF Dash F15. Because this laptop is quite easy for you to get, either on Amazon or on other e-commerce.

As for some competitor laptops that you can consider against the Asus TUF Dash F15, namely the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503Q, MSI GS66 Stealth 10SFS, Aorus 15G XB, Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, to the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XB.

Asus TUF Dash F15 Design

Asus TUF Dash F15 Design
Asus TUF Dash F15 Design

For a gaming laptop, this laptop is classified as having a pretty design. Asus TUF Dash F15 blatantly abandons the design of a gaming laptop that is firm and bulky, and rich in backlight on many sides.

However, this does not mean that this laptop is made so plain. Asus this time added a very large “TUF” inscription on the lid of this laptop, which honestly doesn’t look very appealing to us personally.
In addition, in the corners of this laptop you will not find additional accents or shapes, but only a corner that is quite firm. It really doesn’t look like a gaming laptop.

In terms of design and shape, this laptop is quite compact and lightweight. Asus TUF Dash F15 has dimensions of 360 mm x 252 mm x 20 mm and a weight of only 2.04 kg. This weight is slightly superior to some of its competitors.

Call it the Aorus 15G XB which weighs 2.3 kg or the MSI GS66 Stealth 10SFS which weighs 2.2 kg, or even the Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q which weighs 2.1 kg. All of them belong to a compact gaming laptop and the Asus TUF Dash F15 excels in terms of compactness!

Despite its lightweight, the Asus TUF Dash F15 has a build quality that seems premium and not plasticky. In addition, the hinge of this laptop is quite sturdy, does not look cheap, quite rigid, but can be opened with one finger.

At the bottom of the body of the Asus TUF Dash F15, you can find several exhaust holes that are quite large but the design is ordinary. It’s a bit different from the Asus TUF Gaming A15 which has a honeycomb exhaust design.

Display Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR

The 240 Hz panel is indeed one of the debatable features of this laptop. Because of course with a refresh rate as high as this laptop, you can’t get a high screen resolution like 4K, but only FHD 1920 x 1080 pixels.

In addition, this laptop also has one drawback where the maximum brightness level is only 275 nits. Compare this to most gaming laptops, which currently have an average of 300 nits. Makes it less comfortable to use in an outdoor environment.

Apart from that, one of the other drawbacks, similar to some of its predecessors, is that the color accuracy is not too good. It is known that the sRGB value of the Asus TUF Dash F15 is indeed 98%, but the AdobeRGB figure is only 67%. Compare this with the ROG Zephyrus G15 which reaches 86% or the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XB which reaches 98%.

Furthermore, one important thing to note is that the Asus TUF Dash F15 has a good Display Response Times, but not enough for competitive gamers. Especially for games that have fast-paced, of course, it can be your consideration.

However, this laptop is not intended for competitive gamers, but for those of you who like heavy games to play every day. However, with a plus in terms of design and shape, it is still suitable as a daily gear for work.

After all, in our personal opinion, unless you are really sensitive about this, you usually won’t be too bothered by this kind of screen quality.

But the last thing to note is, do you really need a display with a 240 Hz refresh rate right now? Even so, we are sure that there will not be many AAA games that can reach that number, especially with right-aligned settings.

Keyboard and Touchpad

For those of you who are hardcore gamers, these two aspects may not be too important to pay attention to. Because usually, these people have an extra mouse and keyboard to use in their daily activities with a laptop.

Well, since the Asus TUF Dash F15 is also suitable as a daily gear that you can take anywhere, we think you should listen to our review of the keyboard and touchpad owned by this laptop.

Keyboard

Keyboard Asus TUF Dash F15
Keyboard Asus TUF Dash F15

Comes with a layout without a Numpad, we personally think that the Asus TUF Dash F15 has chosen the right choice. Because of this kind of layout, the Asus TUF Dash F15 has a lot of space on the right and left sides, even on the keyboard itself, making it easier to use.

Just like several other gaming laptop lines belonging to Asus, the Asus TUF Dash F15 has a clear WASD button as if to reiterate to its users that this laptop is indeed a laptop designed specifically for true gamers.

As for the feel that this laptop has, we are quite satisfied. Just like the Asus TUF Gaming A15, this laptop has a keyboard that is very comfortable to use. Even for those of you who work by typing every day, maybe the keyboard from Asus TUF can be your favorite.

One of the drawbacks of this laptop is the arrows buttons which we think are too small. Unlike its predecessor, the TUF Gaming A15 which has a large arrows button, this laptop actually reduces its size so that it becomes smaller and, is rather difficult to use.

Touchpad

Touchpad Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR
Touchpad Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR

The touchpad owned by Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR in our opinion is quite comfortable to use. It feels like there is no resistance when using the touchpad on this laptop. So you will even feel comfortable without buying a mouse to use this laptop.

In our opinion, the size of the touchpad belonging to the Asus TUF Dash F15 is just right, not too small and not too big. The position is already right, in the middle of the screen, and right under the space key. Given the keyboard layout that is owned does not use Numpad.

Now, finally, the touchpad from the Asus TUF Dash F15 already supports gestures with several fingers at once. Even when used there are no significant problems related to the gesture, exactly the same as some of its predecessors.

In our conclusion for the keyboard and touchpad, there are no significant complaints and quite the opposite. Where the keyboard and touchpad owned by this laptop are very comfortable to use. Good for playing games, or for daily work.

Audio

Audio Asus TUF Dash F15
Audio Asus TUF Dash F15

In general, the audio quality of this laptop is quite good in our opinion. Even though on paper, the sound quality produced is still inferior to the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 which is quite far superior. But we don’t think this is a big problem.

In numbers, the maximum sound produced by this laptop is quite fast, which is around 81 dB. The sound quality of the low, mid, and treble produced is quite good. Even slightly above the average laptop in the same class as the Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR.

However, in the end, most users of Asus TUF Dash F15 in our opinion will definitely buy additional headphones that can maximize the experience in playing games using this laptop. So maybe this won’t be too important a consideration.

Ports and Connectivity

Still the same as its predecessor, the port and connectivity sectors are one of the advantages of this Asus TUF Dash F15. While most gaming laptops cut out the ports they have, the Asus TUF Dash F15 remains loyal to its abundant ports.

Port

Although the number of ports owned by the Asus TUF Dash F15 is quite a lot, you don’t have to worry because the type of port provided by the Asus TUF Dash F15 even has one USB 4.0 Type-C that supports Thunderbolt 4.

On the left side of this laptop, there is one DC-in port, 1 RJ-45, 1 HDMI 2.0b port, 1 USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, 1 Audio Combo Jack port, and 1 USB 4.0 Type-C port that supports Thunderbolt 4.

As for the right side, you will not get as many ports as the left side of this laptop. Where you will get 1 Kensington Lock, as well as two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports.

This time the Asus TUF Dash F15 is not equipped with an SD Card Reader. This is quite a debate that is quite noticed by many reviewers where for some people the SD Card Reader is an important thing.

But unfortunately, this is not a new thing for Asus TUF Gaming laptops. If you pay attention, even the Asus TUF Gaming A15 which was first launched by Asus doesn’t have an SD Card. So maybe for the fans, this is not important.

Connectivity

In our opinion, the wireless communication sector owned by Asus TUF Dash F15 is quite good where Asus TUF Dash F15 already uses Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201. Where this module supports Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax.

The data transmission speed of the module used by this laptop is not much different from the average laptop in the same class, even those using the same module.

Battery and Performance

Performance Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR

Unlike its predecessor, which was made as a gaming laptop from the entry level class. In our opinion, the Asus TUF Dash F15 can be compared to a mid-range to high-end gaming laptop, which means that it is very worth buying at this price.
But how about the actual performance of this laptop?

CPU Performance

The CPU brought by the Asus TUF Dash F15 this time is arguably quite special. Where after so many years, Intel is said to be difficult to beat Ryzen, then it is different with this 11th generation Intel Core-i7 which on paper is more efficient than its predecessors.

The unit that is being tested this time uses an Intel Core i7-11370H with 8 MB L3 Cache and a TDP of up to 35 W, and is supported by Hyperthreading technology and turbo boost up to 4.8 GHz. However, this CPU still uses four cores, aka quad cores.

Some of the CPU benchmarking results from the Asus TUF Dash F15 compared to some of its competitors in the same class are as follows:

  • Cinebench R15 Single CPU 64 Bit
    • Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516 PR 231 points
    • Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XB 213 points
    • Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 211 points

    • Aorus 15G XB 1826 points

    • Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 7345 points
    • Average gaming laptop for the last 2 years 7363 points

From the data above, it can be concluded that all single-core CPU tests got satisfactory results. As for testing with multi-core, of course, Asus TUF Dash F15 got not very good results, no wonder because most of its competitors already use hexa- and octa-core CPUs.

The results of benchmarking the overall system performance with PCMark 10 on this laptop, can be seen in the data below:

  • Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516 PR 6088 points
  • Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XB 6580 points
  • Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 6896 points
  • Aorus 15G XB 5393 points
  • Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 6739 points
  • Average gaming laptop for the last 2 years 6190 points

Furthermore, for the GPU performance owned by this laptop, you can see the results in the benchmarking data below:

  • 3DMark 1920 x 1080 Fire Strike Graphics
    • Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516 PR 24520 points
    • Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XB 21121 points

    • Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 7891 points
    • Average gaming laptop for the last 2 years 7854 points

    • Aorus 15G XB 4392 points
    • Razer Blade 15 RTX 2070 Super Max-Q N/A
    • Average gaming laptop for the last 2 years 4902 points

Not too satisfying results were also obtained on this Asus TUF Dash F15 GPU benchmarking. Even though at the price offered, of course, we expect more from this Asus TUF Dash F15.

Then how about the Asus TUF Dash F15 ability when used to play some games?

  • GTA V (2015 Release)
    • Low 164 FPS
    • Med 153 FPS
    • High 111 FPS
    • Ultra 72.6 FPS
  • Far Cry New Dawn (2019 Release)
    • High 80 FPS
    • Ultra 70 FPS
    • QHD 62 FPS
    • 4K 42 FPS
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (2019 Release)
    • High 67.2 FPS
    • Ultra 46.3 FPS
    • QHD 37.5 FPS
    • 4K 24.3 FPS
  • FIFA 21 (2020 Release)
    • High 148 FPS
    • Ultra 144 FPS
    • QHD 114 FPS
    • 4K 67.5 FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (2020 Release)
    • High 57.9 FPS
    • Ultra 50 FPS
    • QHD 32 FPS
    • 4K 15.5 FPS

Even though it has super-efficient performance, in fact, the Asus TUF Dash F15 can still play some AAA games for the last 3 years very smoothly. Although of course on the highest setting, for some very heavy games, you will not be able to play it here.
Furthermore, one of the important notes behind the lack of benchmarking figures obtained by the Asus TUF Dash F15 is that when the test was carried out, the Asus TUF Dash F15 did not use a dynamic boost to bring out the actual performance.

Instead, you can still do a dynamic boost when using this laptop by turning this laptop into turbo mode so that this laptop can bring out its true capabilities.

Storage Performance

For the SSD capabilities of this laptop, in our opinion, there are no complaints and significant differences with some of its competitors. This laptop has the ability to Write Seq 1929 MBps and Read Seq 2035 MBps, when tested using CrystalDiskMark 5.2

The results are not much different obtained by some of its competitors. With a range of speed differences ranging from 10 to 20%. Either faster or slower, depending on the comparison.

Battery Life

Although the performance is not too good when compared to some of its competitors. Asus TUF Dash F15 has very good battery life.

When idle, it is known that this laptop can last 16 hours without charging! Even when used to surf in cyberspace, with WiFi on and sufficient brightness, this laptop can still live for 9 hours without charging at all.

Asus Tuf Dash F15 Webcam

An important consideration that you need to consider before buying the Asus TUF Dash F15 is the absence of a webcam on this laptop. This is also a big question for Asus, and a lot of laptop reviewers out there are asking the same thing as us.

I don’t know what Asus thought so that it then removed the webcam from the Asus TUF Dash F15. Perhaps for the sake of making this laptop a gaming laptop, instead of being used as a daily laptop for conferences, meetings, and so on.

But what is clear is that one important drawback in our opinion should be a concern for those of you who are already excited to make this laptop a daily laptop. Still, there’s always a solution to this where you might as well buy an additional, good quality webcam.

Pros and Cons Asus TUF Dash F15 FX516PR

Pros

The Asus TUF Dash F15 is an affordable computer which is ideal for first-time desktop owners. It has a reasonable price tag and enough features to satisfy most users’ needs, especially students and office workers who want a laptop that can also be used as a desktop computer. This machine delivers adequate performance in both modes, even if it isn’t suitable for demanding tasks such as heavy gaming. The laptop is fairly lightweight and portable, so it won’t be too hard to carry around in a bag. Last but not least, you can buy additional accessories separately from Asus since they sell everything from memory sticks to speakers and screens.

Cons

The Asus TUF Dash F15 is quite a good looking laptop with a metallic finish. You will love its display and you can play most games at medium settings. The speaker and webcam quality are average but that does not matter much because you can always plug in external speakers and use your headset for voice calls. However, you must be careful about two things. Firstly, it is overpriced so get it only if you need to save money on buying other things. Secondly, do not be careless while using it because heating up may damage your system (my friend told me). The good thing is that Asus provides one year warranty by default which may cover hardware problems caused by software faults as well.)

Conclusion on Asus TUF Dash F15

Although on paper its capabilities are still widely questioned, when in actual use there are no significant drawbacks that can interfere with your activities. Especially if you activate the turbo mode when using the Asus TUF Dash F15.

In our personal opinion, the Asus TUF Dash F15 is a compact and lightweight gaming laptop, at a fairly low price, the best you can get right now. Although once again with some drawbacks.
